Automobile factory

Reconstructing in record time

A fire that completely consumed the factory led to a reconstruction plan and a possibility analysis in a joint effort between our studio, Accenture and Johnson Controls. Our studio participated by offering consultation services, predesign evaluation for every phase and accepting the role of go-between with the loss adjustor from the insurance company.

It was finally decided to reconstruct a complex on the original foundation with a total constructed surface area of 9,700m2, maintaining the grid of the original building.
The factory was built with trapezoidal metal sheets with dimensions that bring to mind airplane hangers, Vierendeel beams and a deck style roof including a heat-transferring bioclimatic cooling system using water. The interior lay-out is based on the control rooms of large English power stations.

The programme includes interior development of the land plot, access roads and car parks, as well as a new reception area, fences and loading bays, all in a 20,000m2 area. The works began in February and on September 1 the assembly line was restarted (just in time with Renault).
